What if you had to leave your home and live in the wilderness?
How would you like living in a tent for many years and having families out in the wild? There would be no doctors or nurses, just the loving assistance of your mother and sisters when you were giving birth. What would you eat?
Lehi and Ishmael's families were in just this situation. They had to "get out of Dodge" in a hurry, or they would be mobbed by wicked people. They had to run for their lives.
These families had to leave their wealthy lifestyles and now live in a tent!
But there was one child who could truly see and understand the whole scenario. That was Hannah. She could fully understand why they had to leave and the divine plan ahead.
All the children from Lehi and Ishmael's families were of marrying age. However, in those days, you were not allowed to have private conversations with a member of the opposite sex. There must always be someone in the room with you to chaperone. You did not choose your spouse, your parents did that for you.
With Hannah's testimony and strength in the gospel, she was given in marriage to a son of Lehi, Lemuel, who's strength in the Lord was weak. The parents made this match because they thought Hannah would be an influence on her husband for good.
As you read the story, you feel the frustrations and the joys that Hannah feels. You feel her angst with every step she takes. You feel the heat of the day and the dust sticking to her moist skin as she travels in the desert. You feel the grit in her teeth and the deep desire for refreshment that water brings.
"Daughter of Ishmael" grabbed my attention from the beginning and I felt every emotion that Hannah felt. It was as though I was living Hannah's life vicariously through the book.
I felt Hannah's dread and her joy at finally having a son and then losing that son forever as he followed Satan's grasp.
I loved how the epilogue opens the way for a sequel.
There is still hope for Hannah.

MM Tip #15 - What is Your Biggest Strength?
When you started college I'll wager that you had no idea
what you wanted to do. Am I right?
Teachers and counselors in schools are telling you to
choose something that you love and to do that the rest of your life.
What they didn't tell you is that a Bachelor of Arts in
dancing or majoring in Art may never help you get a job.
But what can you do with that degree to turn it into
something that will make you money...enough to pay your bills and keep a roof
over your head? What did that degree teach you that you would never have
learned anywhere else?
Before you went to college, you were all pumped up about
getting a good education and thus getting a good job that would feed and clothe
you and your family for the rest of your life.
Tell me, what do you think the probability is of that
happening today?
Start reading some good books that are all about positive
attitudes, like Napoleon Hill or Dale Carnegie. Just using these two authors
will give you a wealth of knowledge that will carry you throughout your career.
Here is what happened to me.
When I was in Grade 11, the principal of the high school
took me aside and told me that I would never make it in university and that I
should just start learning office skills. I had such low self-esteem that I
believed him and switched from academics to business. It tore my heart out
because what I really wanted to be was a nurse.
I aced all my classes that year and found that I was
bored to tears. By the end of that year, I was beside myself. I really wanted
to attend university and become a nurse, but now I did not have the
pre-requisites I needed to qualify for university.
I had to go live with my grandmother for my 12th year in
a big city that had a huge high school and a much better selection of courses. I
worked hard and was able to "matriculate" as they referred to being
qualified to attend university.
I chose to attend BYU Ricks in Rexburg, Idaho. (Ricks
College)
The first day there I spent standing in long lines to
register for my classes. In those days, we did not have computerized
registration like we do today.
That day I was extremely ill, but I knew that if I did
not endure standing in line after line to complete my registration, I most
certainly would not get in all the classes I needed for that semester.
At the end of the long day, I hobbled back to my apartment
in Queens Row and straight to bed. Long story short, I had appendicitis and Dr.
Rigby, the school doctor, sent me straight to the hospital, where he removed my
appendix. Well, that finished my nursing career right then and there.
I fainted at the sight of blood!
Now what was I going to do?! I had registered for all the
science courses required for nursing.
Once I was discharged from the hospital, I made an
appointment to meet with my assigned counsellor. She helped me change my major
from sciences to Education and on the road to becoming a teacher.
I love teaching and working with children. It thrills me
to see the "lights go on" when a child learns something brand new!
As I look back now, perhaps there was a divine hand
involved in me changing my career, because I came to realize my greatest
strength.
I am a teacher through and through. That is what I was
meant to be.
Today, my teaching has taken me to coaching businesses
and teaching workshops and webinars, helping business owners understand how to
use online systems to market themselves and their businesses.
I have taught music to young primary children for 36+
years and now am a Cub Scout leader.
I found my strength. Have you found yours?

LinkedIn Tip # 81 - How to Search for a Job on LinkedIn
Are you frustrated trying to find work using LinkedIn and
other online resources?
Are you aware that the whole job search system has
changed? Traditional systems no longer work. Most of the jobs are not even
posted anymore, so how do you find a job?
I have some tricks up my sleeve.
If you are currently employed and looking to find a
different job, and can afford to be on a paid platform, get on Sales navigator
right away. Here's why.
1. You get 30 paid InMails that you can use every month
to send direct messages to people you find through your searches on LinkedIn.
2. You get 15 free InMails, whether you are on a paid
platform or whether you are on a free one. However, these InMails can only be
used in the groups. So if you are on Sales Navigator, you receive a total of 45
InMails every month.
3. You can set up files on the key decision makers by
company.
4. You can search profiles in "stealth mode".
That means that they will not be able to see who is looking at their profiles.
Begin by doing Advanced Searches for size, type and
location of company you are looking to work for. You can see all the key
players in each company and ascertain who the top 5-7 decision makers are in
the company.
Reach out to the decision makers and ask them if they can
share with you what they are looking for in specific jobs (ones that you are
interested in) when they hire for those positions. You are sincerely trying to
prepare yourself to be a better candidate for a prospective employer.
Take notes and when you have finished your conversation,
thank them, perhaps even send them a card in the mail. Did you know that nobody
does this anymore? You will stand out.
You are looking to build relationships. It is through
these relationships that you will start getting referrals to companies they
know are looking for your skills.
Remember that whenever you call a company, you are not
pitching yourself, you are always gathering information about what they are
looking for when they hire for your type of position.
It is not all about you; it is all about who you know and
how much they like you.
Just firing out your resume' does not work.
The secret to finding a job is in the groups and the
relationships you build.

MM Tip # 13 - Do you need a slap "upside the head" for 2017?
Are you afraid of 2017 or are you excited to see what
awaits?
On the weekend I had a chance to chat with a friend about
Happy New Year 2017. What a shock I received...a real rude awakening!
I thought that everyone looked forward to the New Year
and was excited for it because of all the possibilities that are in store for us.
I thought that everyone got busy thinking of ways they could make the incoming
year better than last year. I thought that people were generally very positive
about welcoming in the new and out with the old, so to speak.
This was shocking intel! It took me a few minutes to
process it all!
I found someone who was actually dreading the New Year! I
could not believe my ears! Where were they from...a different planet?
Then it dawned on me! This person had a JOB!
When people are stuck in a "rut" with a job
they only do because they need the money to pay bills, they have no dream! This
person had no dream!!! The dream had been beaten out of them, or should I say
that they let their dreams be stolen from them. They had a "job
mentality".
They told me that they hated New Year's day because of
all the uncertainty ahead and were worrying about if this next year would be
better or worse than last year. There was no thought about what they could do
to make it better than last year.
They were stuck in "rut-thinking"!
I was raised on a ranch in southern Alberta and by "Jimminy",
every year we were always talking about what we were going to do to make the
new year better. We had plans and our resolutions up and already in motion by
the end of the old year.
Through my childhood training, I learned that if my life
was going to be better than it was, it was totally up to me. It was not up to
the government, or my parents, or my neighbours, or my friends. It was plain
and simple up to me to make a difference.
It is unfathomable to me that anyone can be so sad and
disappointed in life to not realize that they are exactly where they are in
life because of decisions they have made in their lives...decisions THEY have
made in their lives!
It does not matter if we are hit by a bus and have every
bone in our body broken. What is important is how we react to that situation.
We have a choice, either we lay down and give up or we snap to it and plan to
overcome.
"So If you don't like where you are, move,
you are not a tree." (Jim Rohn)
There is nothing that is impossible. There is no
"try". There is only "do or do not" (as Yoda said).

LinkedIn Tip #80 - How do you send direct messages using FREE Inmail to your followers?
Have you been sitting on pins and needles wondering how
to send direct messages to your followers? -Even though you are not connected
to them? Have you ever wondered how to meet someone crucial to your business
collaboration who is not connected to anyone you are?
You have nobody who can introduce you to them! What a
predicament!
Yes, it probably has happened to you. Here's how you go
about it.
The purpose of the FREE Inmails was to assist with
connecting to people we are not connected to, and being able to introduce
ourselves in a networking situation through the groups we belong to. Yes, the
FREE Inmails were meant for use in the groups.
The groups are meant to be a bit more intimate, like a
networking organization where we can carry on discussions and arrange meetings
and collaborations as we desire for business.
When LinkedIn originated, we were allowed to send as many
as 300 Inmails a day through the groups to anyone we wanted to invite to a
meeting of some sort, or introduce to our new groups.
A year and a half ago, when LinkedIn made all the big
changes, the Inmails were cut completely, and we were unable to send any
Inmails at all. It almost killed the groups!
It was a mess!
Recently, LinkedIn reinstated the FREE Inmails to be used
with the groups. We all receive 15 FREE Inmails a month. The stipulation is
that these can only be used in the groups. (Paid Inmails can be used with any
person we are not connected to, either in or out of the groups.)
So if you are wanting to send a direct message to the
people who follow you, these people are not your 1st connections, so you would
need to find a way to use either a paid or FREE Inmail.
Using FREE Inmail, visit each profile and scroll down to
the groups section. See if you are in any groups that they also belong to. If
you are not a member of any of the same groups, then request to join one of
their groups. Wait until you are accepted into that group. Once you are
accepted into the group, you can then go search the group for the person you
were wanting to message directly.
Voila! There you have it!
It takes time, but the result is the same.

LinkedIn Tip #79 - "Connections Only" VS "All Contacts"?
Have you ever wondered what choosing "All
Contacts" or "Connections Only" means?
You have probably noticed the "My Network" tab
located in the top, left side of your LinkedIn Profile page. Did you ever
wonder what all those selections were for in there?
When you are searching through your connections under the
"Connections" tab, which is under the "My Network" tab, you
will find these two choices, "Connections Only" or "All
Contacts".
Feeling confused yet?
I don't blame you. However, if you check out the number
of connections that show up when you click on each one, you will notice that
the "All Contacts" tab has more people listed in there.
Now why would that be?
The reason you have more people listed in your "All
Contacts" tab is because that listing includes all the people who just
"follow" you, and are not actually connected to you, as well as your
1st connections.
The reason you want to separate your connections from
your followers is because you can only send messages to your connections
(meaning your 1st connections)...IF you have paid Inmail. I will write another
blog about how to get around having to use paid Inmail.
When you are a 1st connection, you can message without
having to worry about using Inmail.
The next time you are searching in your My Network tab,
check these out.
